🐟 Mona (Darien Sawfish)

$394.00

Category:

Description 1 a 2 days

This tour offers a unique experience accompanied by Emberá fishermen, who possess in-depth knowledge of the marine and riverine megafauna of the Tuira and Chucunaque rivers. Drawing on ancestral wisdom, the community shares its historical relationship with these waters, where fishing has been an essential part of life and sustenance.

The experience unfolds with an observational and conservation focus, incidentally searching for the sawfish (Mona), an emblematic species currently critically endangered. Considered a close relative of prehistoric species, the sawfish underscores the urgent need to protect the aquatic ecosystems of the Darién.

During the tour it is also possible to observe or fish in a traditional and responsible way other local species such as the macana, the doncella and the guacuco, always respecting the natural cycles and the sustainable practices of the community.

The activity takes place near the Matudagarati Wetland, a key ecosystem for biodiversity, reinforcing the message of conservation and the Emberá commitment to the protection of their aquatic territory.
